Ganesh is a Ph.D. candidate at the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center (CAMK) in Toruń and a research scholar at the GeoPlanet Doctoral School.
The supervisor of his doctoral research is Dr. hab. Krzysztof Hełminiak.
Scientific interests:
Modelling of eclipsing binaries, determination of fundamental stellar parameters, time-series photometry, spectroscopy and radial velocities.
He is currently modelling detached eclipsing binary stars to obtain highly precise orbital and stellar parameters, with the aim of establishing them as benchmark stars for the upcoming ESA PLATO mission. This work is carried out in collaboration with the PLATO work packages WP 125500 and WP 161000. By combining high-precision space- and ground-based photometry with high-resolution spectroscopy, he determines stellar masses, radii, effective temperatures and chemical compositions with sub-percent precision. These measurements provide stringent tests of stellar evolution theory and support the accurate characterisation of exoplanet host stars.
His observational experience includes leading investigating programmes on SALT-HRS, ESO HARPS, the Las Cumbres Observatory (LCO) network, SAAO, the Telescopi Joan Oró (TJO) and co-investigating programmes the 3.6-m Devasthal Optical Telescope, the 2-m Himalayan Chandra Telescope and TESS. He currently leads a long-term observing programme at LCO, awarded 550 hours over three semesters.
He is the Principal Investigator of the NCN PRELUDIUM-23 grant “Detached Eclipsing Binaries as Benchmark Stars for the PLATO Mission” (2025).
