Sergen Özdemir is a Ph.D. candidate at the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center (CAMK) in Warsaw and a scholar at the Geoplanet Doctoral School.

Prof. Rodolfo Smiljanic supervises his doctoral research. In his doctoral work, Sergen focuses on understanding the multiple stellar populations in globular clusters via high-resolution spectroscopy and very-high precise chemical abundance analysis.

Sergen is a part of the SAGA team in CAMK which focuses on Galactic archeology studies. As a part of the SAGA team, he is working on the CHEmical Survey analysis System (CHESS) project. CHESS is a new pipeline for the analysis of stellar spectra under development by the SAGA team. CHESS project is financially supported by the Polish National Science Centre through SONATA BIS grant, “Playing CHESS with stars: decoding the Galactic chemical enrichment with stellar chemical abundances” (2019/34/E/ST9/00133).
