A+ category for NCAC

Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center has been ranked A+, the highest possible rank, in the recent (2013) evaluation of scientific institutes in Poland.

The evaluation procedure included both institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences and university departments. The evaluation criteria included the publication record of each institute, major achievements and awards, as well as parameters describing the scientific potential of an institute, e.g., number of faculty/staff and the number of scientific degrees (PhD, professor) awarded. All parameters refered to the 2009-2012 period. The final rank resulted from comparison of institutes according to a complicated algorythm, accounting for differences in the institutes' sizes and the scientific disciplines.

NCAC is among 37 institutes which have been awarded the highest category, out of the total of 963 institutes evaluated.

More information (in Polish) is given on the pages of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
