Competition for research scholarships in computational astrophysics

Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center (NCAC) of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw announces competition for two 4-year research scholarships to participate in the SONATA BIS project „Kinetic simulations of instabilities in relativistic plasma” (2015/18/E/ST9/00580) financed by the Polish National Science Centre and led by Dr Krzysztof Nalewajko. More information on the project can be found at http://users.camk.edu.pl/knalew/. The suggested starting date is October 2017.

The scholarships are intended for prospective Ph.D. students at NCAC. Candidates should hold (or expect to obtain before the start of their scholarship) a university degree (master or equivalent) in the field of astrophysics, astronomy or physics. Knowledge of numerical methods, high-energy astrophysics or plasma physics will be preferred.

Candidates should submit an application including a CV, a copy of the most important diploma (master, engineer, bachelor) including the list of course grades, as well as information on research experience (participation in research projects, publications, awards, etc). They can also include one recommendation letter from a research advisor.

Applications should be sent in the PDF format at knalew@camk.edu.pl until March 17th, 2017. Any questions about the competition can also be sent there. This competition is independent from the reqruitment for Ph.D. studies at NCAC (https://www.camk.edu.pl/en/phd/).
