Marek Górski is a postdoctoral researcher at the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center (CAMK) in Warsaw where he is a member of the international Araucaria team working on the cosmic distance scale.
After defending his Ph.D. in 2014 at the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Warsaw with the focus on “Precise distance measurements to selected Local Group galaxies”, he conducted his six-years (2014-2020) postdoctoral research at the Department of Astronomy of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics (FCFM) of the University of Concepción (UdeC) in Chile. During his stay in Chile he realized two scholarships, one (2014-2017) funded by the Millennium Institute of Astrophysics and focused on infrared surface brightness Baade-Wesselink (B-W) method, and other (2017-2020), possible thanks to the FONDECYT (The National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development) Program devoted to improving the accuracy of selected distance indicators.
Currently his work regards the topic of the extragalactic distance scale and Hubble tension.
Dr. Górski has a rich experience in performing diverse observations, including optical photometry, near-infrared photometry and spectroscopy, as well as the reduction of obtained data.
