Competition for a postdoc position in gravitational-wave astrophysics

Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CAMK PAN) announces the competition for the post-doc position.

We are looking for a candidate with practical experience in the data analysis, classification and data modeling in the field of machine learning, knowledge of statistical methods used in astronomy and advanced programming skills.

The winner of the competition will conduct research within the OPUS project entitled

''Calm before the storm: rethinking the gravitational-wave analysis toolbox in the face of future challenges'' (nr 2021/43/B/ST9/01714), in cooperation with prof. Michal Bejger.

Detailed research tasks include design and implementation of methods for analyzing long-duration gravitational-wave signals, exploring new solutions and improving existing well-established data analysis methods with modern machine learning techniques, as well as at studying astrophysical models of neutron stars in order to demonstrate, on one hand, which theoretically-considered neutron star features will be possible (or impossible) to credibly assess with near and farther future detectors, and, on the other hand, what kind of capabilities future detectors should have to credibly observe specific signatures of processes occurring in GW sources.

We seek candidates holding the PhD title in the field of physics or astronomy (or a related field), or PhD students at the last stages of their doctoral thesis.

The contract should start not later than October 3rd, 2022 (the candidate should be in possession of the PhD title at this time).

An employment contract on an adjunct's position is maximally up to three years.

The competitive salary for the employment period is exceeding PLN 8000 gross per month. Additional allowance for travel and computer equipment is available.

To apply for admission to the position please attach a copy of the PhD diploma (or the

supervisor's statement about the advancement of the PhD thesis), CV, list of scientific publications, two recommendation letters from independent researchers, and a self-presentation statement (concise information on the candidate's previous achievements and experience, and scientific interests: the text should not exceed 3500 characters including spaces), a scan of a signed GDPR form, available at:

https://www.camk.edu.pl/en/media/uploads_current/o_instytucie/rodo/rodo_deklaracja_ncn_ang.pdf

Documents should be submitted by August 15, 2022, by e-mail, in the pdf format, to recruitment@camk.edu.pl

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled with consideration guaranteed to all applications received by August 15, 2022.

The contest should be resolved before the end of August 2022.

Additional information can be obtained by e-mail from prof. Michał Bejger (bejger@camk.edu.pl).
