Postdoctoral position in asteroseismology of binary stars

The Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center in Warsaw, Poland invites applications for a postdoctoral position in asteroseismology of binary stars.

 

The opening is for an initial period of 18 months with a possible extension of another 18 months. The successful candidate will work with Prof. Gerald Handler on asteroseismology of massive stars, based on data with the TESS space mission, supplemented by ground-based measurements.

 

The position will be funded from the Polish National Science Centre "Exploiting the potential of asteroseismology of binary stars" funded by the Polish National Science Center (NCN), through grant nr 2021/43/B/ST9/02972.

 

We are looking for a candidate with practical experience in the seismic modelling of stellar interiors with state-of-the-art codes, particularly of massive stars, which will also be the central research task of the postdoctoral researcher. Experience in the analysis of binary stars and/or spectroscopic observations will be an advantage.

 

The prime requirement for employment is the possession of a valid PhD degree in astronomy at the starting date, envisaged to be 02 January 2023, but obtained no earlier than in 2016.

The deadline for applications is 15 October 2022, and the winner of the competition will be announced by the end of October 2022.

 

The salary of the successful candidate will be competitive and comparable to that of Polish researchers in the same career stage. Funding for travel and research equipment is available.
