John Eduard Martínez Fernández is a Ph.D. candidate at the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center (CAMK) in Warsaw and a scholar at the Geoplanet Doctoral School.

Prof. Rodolfo Smiljanic supervises his doctoral research. In his doctoral work, John focuses on the study of open clusters as natural laboratories for studying various aspects of stellar and Galactic astrophysic using high-resolution spectroscopy and precise chemical abundance analysis.

John is a member of CAMK's SAGA team, dedicated to Galactic archaeology research. Within the SAGA team, he is involved in the development of the CHEmical Survey Analysis System (CHESS) project. CHESS is an innovative pipeline designed for the analysis of stellar spectra, currently in development by the SAGA team. This project receives financial backing from the Polish National Science Centre through the SONATA BIS grant, "Playing CHESS with stars: decoding the Galactic chemical enrichment with stellar chemical abundances" (2019/34/E/ST9/00133).
