Fatemeh Kayanikhoo is a Ph.D. candidate at the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center (CAMK) in Warsaw and a scholar at the Geoplanet Doctoral School.

The supervisors of her doctoral work are Prof. Włodzimierz Kluźniak and Dr. Miljenko Cemeljic.

The subject of her Ph.D. dissertation is “Modelling several systems of accreting magnetized neutron stars”. She works with general relativistic radiative magnetohydrodynamics (GRRMHD) code KORAL.

Her previous projects focused on:
  • properties of strange quark stars in presence of strong magnetic fields,
  • the effect of magnetic fields on the structure of strange quark stars using the LORENE library.

In her present projects she works on:
  • energy dissipation in astrophysical simulation using PLUTO 4.4 and KORAL codes,
  • accretion discs around magnetized neutron stars using KORAL code (in collaboration with Dr. David Abarca),
  • total energy and deformation of strange star in the presence of strong magnetic field and rotation using LORENE library (supervising two summer students of CAMK),
  • the last orbit of strange star-neutron star binary using LORENE library (supervising two summer students of CAMK).

In 2019 she received a six-month grant from the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of Iran for conducting research abroad and working with the neutron star group at the University of Coimbra (Portugal) with Prof. Constança Providência. Currently, she is involved in OPUS research project funded by the Polish National Science Center (2019/33/B/ST9/01564) "From Transitional Pulsars to ULXs - radiation, jets, and outflows in accreting neutron stars", led by Prof. Włodzimierz Kluźniak.

Research interests
  • strange stars and neutron stars,
  • magnetic field effects on the structure and dynamical properties of compact objects,
  • accretion discs around compact objects,
  • plasma physics and magnetic reconnection.
