NASA's Juno mission: a legacy of new discoveries at Jupiter

Alex Markowitz

(CAMK, Warszawa)

NASA's Juno mission has been providing a rush of new insights into Jupiter, our solar system's largest planet. Since arriving at Jupiter in 2016, Juno has explored the depths of Jupiter's complex, stormy atmosphere, and has given us new views on Jupiter's interior structure, its complex magnetic field, and its past evolution. This talk will focus on several of the main science highlights from the mission.

Wykład w języku angielskim. Możliwe będzie zadawanie pytań i wygłaszanie komentarzy po polsku (te będą tłumaczone na żywo).

The Story of Active Galactic Nuclei"

Vikram Kumar Jaiswal (Centrum Fizyki Teoretycznej, PAN, Warszawa)

Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) are some of the most energetic and mysterious objects in the universe. They are located at the centers of certain galaxies and can outshine entire galaxies due to their intense energy output. In this discussion, we will explore what makes these galactic cores "active" and why they are significant in the fields of astrophysics and cosmology. We will examine the fascinating process by which matter spirals around supermassive black holes, which are the source of AGN's immense power. We'll discuss how AGN emit energy across the entire electromagnetic spectrum, from radio waves to X-rays, and what this reveals about the extreme conditions present at their cores. Additionally, we will explore the different types of AGN, including quasars, blazars, and Seyfert galaxies, and how they contribute to our understanding of galaxy evolution and the early universe.
