Welcome to our new tenure-track faculty members.
We are delighted to welcome Dr Aleksandra Olejak and Dr Tadafumi Matsuno, who will join the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences on 1 October 2026 as tenure-track Assistant Professors.
Dr Aleksandra Olejak will be based at our Warsaw headquarters. Her research focuses on the evolution of massive stars and binary systems, the formation of compact objects, and the astrophysical origin of gravitational-wave sources. She joins CAMK as a returning scientist within the NAWA Polish Returns programme, “Stars Near Massive Black Holes as Electromagnetic Sources and Future Gravitational-Wave Targets for LISA”. The project will investigate stellar interactions with intermediate-mass and supermassive black holes and their potential electromagnetic and gravitational-wave signatures, with particular emphasis on future observations by LISA.
Dr Tadafumi Matsuno will join the Department of Astrophysics in Toruń.
His research focuses on Galactic archaeology and stellar astrophysics, using the chemical composition and kinematics of stars to investigate the formation and evolution of the Milky Way. He is a member of the 4MOST and WEAVE collaborations, which will carry out spectroscopic observations of millions of stars. He contributes to target selection and survey pipeline validation, and plans to use these data to investigate the history of the Milky Way and the cosmic origin of the chemical elements.
Their appointments strengthen CAMK’s research in stellar evolution, compact objects and gravitational-wave astrophysics, as well as Galactic archaeology and the formation of the Milky Way.
We warmly welcome Aleksandra and Tadafumi to CAMK and look forward to their contributions to the scientific life of the Institute.
