A sad message received from the Institute of Astronomy in Zielona Góra:
Dear Colleagues,
It is with great regret that we announce that our Friend and Colleague, Professor Janusz Gil, passed away on Sunday, the 19th of October 2014, in Wilkanowo near Zielona Gora, due to heart failure.
Janusz was a dear Friend, a highly esteemed Colleague, and a Mentor. We shall all remember his enthusiasm, passion, and a lively approach to science, which were the driving forces behind his many contributions to pulsar studies and the many achievements in his career.
Janusz was also a man of vision. A vision, that led him to establish the Astrophysics Group at the University of Zielona Gora, which has achieved international standing, and is contributing to the formation of a new generation of astronomers with brilliant perspectives. This will remain his lasting legacy in the years to come.
We are all very close to his wife, Emilia, his family, and all of his closest friends in this very sad moment.
On behalf of faculty and staff of the Institute of Astronomy in Zielona Góra,
Andrzej J. Maciejewski
The staff of the Copernicus Astronomical Center express their Condolences.
