Postdoctoral position in high-energy astrophysics

Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center (NCAC) in Warsaw, Poland, invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the field of high-energy astrophysics. The successful applicant will collaborate with prof. Andrzej Zdziarski on the project "Inflows and outflows around black holes and neutron stars" funded by the Polish National Science Centre. The position is available for two years, with a possibility of an extention for the third year. Funding for travel and research equipment will also be provided. Additional benefits such as housing for an initial time period can be provided by the institute. The preferred starting date is October 1st, 2016, but it is to some extent negotiable. The salary of the successful candidate will be comparable to that of Polish researchers in the same career stage.

 

NCAC is the leading astrophysical institute in Poland. Current research at the institute encompasses a broad range of both observational and theoretical subjects in modern astrophysics. It hosts a total of about 50 PhD astronomers and almost 30 PhD students and provides a high-class work environment. NCAC scientists participate in many international projects, e.g. H.E.S.S., CTA, Fermi, Virgo, LIGO, SALT, Gaia-ESO, ATHENA.

 

A requirement for employment is the posession of a valid PhD degree in astronomy or physics by the starting date, but obtained not earlier than in 2010. Previous research on high-energy astrophysics is required.

 

The applicants should provide a CV, a copy of the PhD diploma or a binding statement of its date of completion, a list of publications, a statement of scientific interests and plans (2 pages) and arrange for two letters of recommendation. For full consideration, the applications should be received by April 31st, 2016. The review of applications will begin soon after this date and continue until the positions are filled.
