Scholarship on the theory and observations of classical Cepheids

The Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center is opening a call for one scholarship to work on the theory and observations of classical Cepheids. The scholarship is available to graduate students currently enrolled or accepted for the year 2019/2020 in a doctoral school in the scientific discipline of astronomy.

The position is open for 4 years, starting November, 1st, subject to negotiation.

A competitive gross salary is being offered: 4500 PLN/month in the framework of the SONATA BIS National Science Center grant (no: 2018/30/E/ST9/00598), led by dr hab. Radoslaw Smolec. The salary includes the doctoral scholarship (art. 209 of the Polish law on higher education and science).

 

The candidate is expected to have experience in programming, and solid background in astrophysics with focus on stellar pulsation and evolution theories. The candidate will work with dr. hab. R. Smolec either on modelling classical Cepheids in eclipsing binary systems, or on analysis of period changes in classical pulsating variables.

- a CV;

- a copy of the most important diploma (master, engineer, bachelor) - including the list of course grades;
- as well as information on research experience (participation in research projects, publications, awards, etc) and research interests;
- at least one recommendation letter.
