Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center (CAMK) of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) in Warsaw announces competition for a postdoctoral position to participate in the OPUS 30 project „The puzzle of the spins of stellar-mass black holes” (2025/59/B/ST9/01180) financed by the Polish National Science Centre and led by Prof. Andrzej Zdziarski. The main task of the postdoc will be to investigate accretion flows onto spinning black holes by means of numerical simulations in collaboration with Dr. Hab. Krzysztof Nalewajko and Prof. Zdziarski.
The scholarship is available for holders of a Ph.D. degree in the fields of astrophysics, astronomy or physics (or candidates that expect to obtain the degree in the year of employment in the project or within 12 years before January 1st of the year of employment in the project). Knowledge of numerical methods and high-energy astrophysics will be preferred.
The selection criteria include:
- the candidate's research achievements including publications in prestigious academic journals (50% of the final score);
- research-related achievements, scholarships, awards and research experience gained in Poland or abroad, research workshops and training courses, participation in research projects (20% of the final score);
- the candidate’s competence to carry out specific tasks in the research project (30% of the final score).
